You will learn where different species prefer to grow, how tree communities influence what you are likely to find, and how to identify common mushrooms by looking at features such as gills, caps, stems, texture, color, and growth patterns.
We will talk about the ecological roles mushrooms play, the seasonal changes that affect their appearance, and the ways you can continue exploring on your own after the walk. These are educational outings that focus on observation and identification. We will not be collecting mushrooms for eating, since foraging in parks is generally not permitted.
